As if from Nowhere...

Sometimes a well-executed idea is all it takes to achieve excellence. With her design, Orla Reynolds has proved this little-realized fact with a simplicity that can leave you wondering why no-one ever thought of it before.
The “As if from nowhere…” bookcase aesthetically hides four easily removable dining chairs and two tables along its borders. Yes, this bookcase literally HOLDS dining room furniture along with books. More like a furni-case?
Made of steel, the chairs are comfortable to sit on with the addition of magnetic cushions that stay in place on the chairs. We love how the chairs and tables use bright primary and secondary colors from the wheel, adding playfulness to the design as well as the space around it.
While this is a wonderful dining room solution for small spaces and studio homes, it can also be used independently for study purposes. It can serve as a solution for space deprived teenage rooms to provide for storage, additional seating and work-space when needed.
There are many spaces in which the versatile “As if from nowhere…” bookcase can be used to add functional and aesthetic dimensions. Libraries, small offices, dining areas, study nooks, studio homes, craft workstations...the possibilities are endless.

Here is a video of this inspiring modern design:
