Breakout Furniture by Malcew - DIY Inspiration

Great designs may serve aesthetic purposes but more than often, are built to fulfill a need. It’s the utility combined with aesthetics that adds value to a design. The breakout furniture design by Malcew might not seem extraordinary in terms of the ‘design’ itself; but an insight into the many purposes it serves and the effortless attitude with which ‘use’ has been blended with ‘art’ is inspiring.

Originally designed for an office space in Singapore, these modular ‘treehouses’ provide flexible arrangements. Individually they serve as a work space with limited privacy while together they can be joined to create an open room for meetings. Their modular structure includes cushions that can be pulled out and positioned to create the office set-up desired by users while its white oak finish structure acts as a space divider. The bright interior colors give it a very contemporary look, making it useful as an accent in almost any setting.
This design, in homes can act as a mobile library. A reading nook on wheels, you can move it along with the sunlight in your rooms. Its simple structure makes it a very desirable DIY project if you have the kind of space. As a DIY project, it can be altered to suit your needs – with additional shelves for a library, a table and chair for a study or even a comfortable bean bag to laze on!
